From Booking Through Thursday:
It’s an old question, but a good one . . . What were your favorite books this year?
List as many as you like … fiction, non-fiction, mystery, romance, science-fiction, business, travel, cookbooks … whatever the category. But, really, we’re all dying to know. What books were the highlight of your reading year in 2007?
It was a good year, reading-wise. Here are my highlights, with links to my reviews.
The Ghost Writer by John Harwood
East of Eden by John Steinbeck
Private Demons: The Life of Shirley Jackson by Judy Oppenheimer
The Cross (Kristin Lavransdatter 3) by Sigrid Undset
Twisted by Laurie Halse Anderson
Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy (translated by Joel Carmichael)
Judgment in Stone by Ruth Rendell
And a few series:
Dave Duncan’s A Man of His Word and A Handful of Men
Megan Lindholm’s Ki and Vandien Quartet
I did not like Namesake. I found it snobbish at some points.
Steinbeck is one of my Favourites too. I read East of Eden last year!
My list!
I’m wondering whether you’re planning on seeing ‘The Namesake’ movie…
Personally, I don’t tend to like film adaptations (‘Bridget Jones’ Diary’ being a notable exception, I actually liked the movie more than the book. lol).
Happy new year!
I’m so glad that The Ghost Writer made your list! 🙂 I love The Namesake, East of Eden, and Anna Karenina as well. I got the new translation of W&P for Christmas, and I plan on reading KL this year as well. Now, I have to go read your review of Twisted to see what that’s about!
I enjoyed the Namesake too though at the same time I can see where Gautami is coming from with her comment… !
I didn’t care for the movie version–thought it moved too slow & didn’t have all of the nuance of the book.
Eva–oh, yeah, it’s definitely stayed with me.
East of Eden is one of my faves.
Oh….you’ve got some great books read this year!! Here’s hoping 2008 is just as good!!
I’m so happy you liked East Of Eden and the Shirley Jackson biography.
I liked A Judgment in Stone, but I’ve lost my copy! I never noticed until Iwas searching the house fo another lost book and didn’t find either.
It’s been a great year of books, that’s for sure!
