Blogging Tips Meme + Little (Grrl) Lost by Charles de Lint

Eva at A Striped Armchair tagged me for the Blogging Tips Meme. I’ve blogged on this topic before for Daily Blog Tips’s Blogging Mistakes contest. It’s a subject I’m interested in, and some great tips have been collected so far. It’s very simple. When this is passed on to you, copy the whole thing, skim the list and put a * star beside those that you like. (Check out especially the * starred ones.)

Do You Really Know About Books?

Last night’s work read was essentially Ian McEwan with a lesbian twist.lin Dewey has a fun round up of links called “This and That” up at her blog today. Thanks to her, I wasted far too much time at Bibliofemme taking quizzes about books. I did pretty well on characters & first lines, but tanked when it came to questions about publishing history. Also, I’ve added a new feature at the bottom of each post: click View Random Post to be taken to a random…

How Can I Be a Book I’ve Never Read?

Via Catch-22, I mean, Dewey: You’re Ulysses! by James Joyce Most people are convinced that you don’t make any sense, but compared to what else you could say, what you’re saying now makes tons of sense. What people do understand about you is your vulgarity, which has convinced people that you are at once brilliant and repugnant. Meanwhile you are content to wander around aimlessly, taking in the sights and sounds of the city. What you see is vast, almost limitless, and brings you additional…

I Rock!

At least Bybee thinks so. And I think her blog rocks so this made my day. So, now the rules state that I have to nominate 5 blogs that rock. This is hard, because the litblog world also happens to be filled with great writers. But I shall try. I’ll start with my girls Anne Dayton and May Vanderbilt at Good Girl Lit. Anne & May write Christian chick lit that’s fresh, funny, and not at all preachy. And their blog has a similarly quirky…

Annie Needs…

This is rather hilarious, courtesy of Petunia. It’s not at all book-related, but that’s okay because I didn’t read a book for this post. The results I got just tickled me so much that I couldn’t keep it to myself. 1. Go to Google.com 2. Type your name and the word ‘needs’ in quotes in the search engine and hit the button. Give us 13 that make sense, if you can. 1. Annie needs to be rescued by the armed forces (displaying male power), the…

Eating Books

In our still newish apartment, we have a dining room, which completely and absolutely rocks. I have never had such a thing in my 12 years of living in New York City. Having the table in the middle means that the wall space can be used for–you guessed it–books. I love the way the bookshelves look in the room, but all the books are kind of distracting. We had out-of-town guests last night, and as we sat around the table this morning I was watching…

One Little Building Block

I just finished a work read that was a children’s book that makes me happy that people write for children. It was simply lovely. Dostoevsky decoder & newish reader Meli has tagged me for a teeny meme, which goes well with a teeny work read. Turn to page 161 of the book closest to you (no cheating) and copy out the fifth full sentence. From page 161 of Finding Alice by Melody Carlson: “So many young people out on the streets these days.” I feel…
