In the aftermath of a catastrophe, where diet water fried the brains of the people who took it and turned them into functional zombies, teenage Velvet get the word that she can bring her Contaminated yet neutralized mother home.
I was about 2/3 of the way through Contaminated before I realized that I was only going to get setup for the bigger story. I have no problem with stories that take place over multiple volumes, but I have a minimal expectation that each book will tell a complete story, and this one just didn’t. I was really enjoying the world and the characters and the vibe, so my sense of letdown was pretty big. I don’t really feel like it was the author’s fault, I felt like it may have been rushed to publication or split into multiple volumes for marketing purposes. Too bad, because the writing is pretty good.
